SSC (Staff Selection Commission) forms are notoriously strict about photo specifications. If your photo is even 1 KB over the 50 KB limit, the form rejects it. This guide walks you through getting it right — no Photoshop needed.

Step 1: Take or Select Your Photo
- Use a recent passport-style photo with white background
- Face the camera directly, neutral expression, no glasses
- If your background isn't white, use our AI Photo Maker (₹29) or any background remover
Step 2: Resize to 200×230 Pixels
Go to PhotoSure's free Resize Photo tool (photosure.app/tools/resize-photo). Upload your photo, select the 'SSC (200×230px)' preset, and click resize. The tool crops your photo to the exact dimensions SSC requires.
Step 3: Compress to 20–50 KB
After resizing, your photo might still be larger than 50 KB. Use the Compress Image tool (photosure.app/tools/compress-image) to bring it down. Set target to 45 KB (leaving a small buffer below the 50 KB limit) and download.
Many students resize the dimensions but forget about KB. SSC will reject a 200×230px photo that's 80 KB. Always check both dimensions AND file size before uploading.
Step 4: Prepare Your Signature
- 1Sign on plain white paper with a black pen (not blue!)
- 2Take a photo in good lighting, crop to signature only
- 3Use the Resize tool → set to 200×70 pixels
- 4Use the Compress tool → target 15 KB
- 5If you signed in blue ink, use the Blue to Black converter first
What If Your Photo Gets Rejected?
- Check if file size is between 20–50 KB (most common issue)
- Verify dimensions are exactly 200×230 — not 230×200 (width × height)
- Ensure format is JPEG (.jpg) — PNG files are rejected
- Background must be clearly white, not grey or coloured
- Face must be clearly visible, centred, without shadows
